I visited the Morrill Chapter on October 13, 2009 and toured the house with a young brother-nice! I am enjoying retirement in sunny Arizona; reading, golfing, walking, and reminiscing.

Frank Markland '57 (2804 Elm Avenue, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266-2428; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) As a Penn State alum and an AZ from California, I have been reading about all the goings on at Penn State from afar and wondering what it is like to be on the Campus at this time in the history of Penn State. Despite all the turmoil at the University, my remembrances of Penn State and my experiences there are still very fresh and bring back very good memories; also the friends and brothers I have there are still my friends and brothers. In a nutshell, I still have very fond memories of Penn State and my experiences there and nothing that has happened or will happen will dim or alter those feelings. Further, from some of the alumni gatherings in California, I had a great chance to get to know Graham Spanier, a very good man, and am very sorry that he was forced out based on all the football problems.
Aside from that little soap box dissertation, things are good in California and I am still waiting for any one of my fraternity brothers to come by and visit me in Manhattan Beach, very close to Los Angeles International Airport and as the name implies right on the ocean (Pacific not Atlantic). So come on and stop by - anyone!
As far as what I am doing now, I am still a biochemistry and molecular biology professor at the University of Southern California and in addition to lots of teaching and research, am trying to get my start-up biotech company off the ground. These are very difficult times to be getting a start-up going in the biotech arena, but we feel our anti-cancer/anti-metastatic technology is very worthwhile and are working diligently to move the technology into the clinic.
We have a time-share in Maui and my wife Wendy, myself, my two children and their spouses, and my five grandchildren went to Maui for a week right before Christmas and we all had a great time.

Hey Schue; Hey Snyder; Hey Sacks; Hey Pharo: where are all of you guys . How about getting together to celebrate 50 years as suggested by Dave Morrison. When: how about summer of 2008 a little late, but better late than never.
Lets invite classes of '56, '58 and '59 as well and all get together at the House sometime during the summer or 2008.
Is it a dream? Let's make it a reality!

I'm still working at McGuiness, Norris & Williams in Washington DC, a management-oriented labor law and government relations firm where I am Senior Economist. I've been working hard for several years now on legislation to reform the program for legally admitting and employing alien farm workers, and also consulting with employers and agricultural associations who employ these so-called ""H-2A workers"". Looking forward to starting to cut back and enjoy at least partial retirement if/when the legislation passes. I'm also still doing the federal lobbying for the American Kennel Club and a number of other organizations. Occaisionally hear of or run into Pat Wolfe, but that's about it.

Had an absolutely wonderful Christmas with my three children, seven grandchildren and in-laws. It took place in Ancram, N.Y., which turned into a winter wonderland on Christmas Day. I hope you all had a great Christmas too. Let's never forget the reason for the season!

Gail and I still enjoy traveling and are planning a trip to France in September, and Spain and Portugal next January. We have a family vacation coming up next week with our three kids and 7 grandchildren to Capon Springs and Farms, W. Va., a little bit of heaven on earth. We all go there every year.

I spent five months in Thailand (November 2001-March 2002). Really enjoyed the culture, people, food, climate (winter) and prices. It is very reasonable for us (based on dollars) if you keep away from international hotel chains. The language is very difficult to learn as it is so different than English.

Winter in Bradenton FL where a women in front of me was checking into the dentist as Mrs Almquist. I asked if, by chance, she knew a Dr. John Almquist and she said, ""Yes, he's my husband and he's waiting in the car."" So John and I had a nice reunion.
